St. Louis County court records contain information on case proceedings and judicial actions. Such records are available at designated agencies and may be digital or physical documents. Also, the records may contain different data based on the court case type and status. For instance, property lien court documents may feature titles or deeds, while criminal records may contain sentencing details.

Are Court Records Public in St. Louis County?

St. Louis County court records are available to the public. The Missouri Sunshine Act is a series of state laws that determine all aspects of public records in St. Louis. For example, the law empowers the clerk of courts to keep and issue copies of court records to public members.

The state laws also require record custodians to withhold records that may violate a record subject’s right to security and privacy. For this reason, personal medical information is not available in court records. Other exempt court documents include:

  • Court documents classified as “exempt” under state or federal laws or court orders.
  • Communication between attorneys and their clients
  • Personal-identifying data, such as social security numbers, credit card details, and driver’s licenses
  • Records of cases that were dismissed or not found guilty due to mental health
  • Welfare cases pertaining to identifiable case parties.
